The joist mounted pull up bar is the best (in every sense of the word)
chin-up/pull-up bar on the market. This is not your ordinary home
pull-up bar. Its heavy duty design can handle any abuse, be it at home
or a commercial gym. The manufacturer of this bar really did not cut any
corners. And it may seem like an expensive pull up bar at $70+ (with
traverse handles), but it is the best $70+ that I ever spent in my life.
Listen,
I've tried many pull-up bars out there and they are laughable in
comparison. That said, you really come to appreciate this pull-up bar
during installation, which was a breeze BTW. I mounted the bar to a
single joist in my basement. The mounting hardware supplied was ideal
and the bar feels rock solid. But as others have pointed out, you may
need to purchase longer bolts to accommodate for your joist size and/or
layout.
After years of weight-lifting, I came to the conclusion
that pull-ups are the best strength training exercises you can do for
upper-body strength and muscle mass, PERIOD. Actually, I stopped lifting
weights altogether when I realized that calisthenic exercises provide
the most effective means of getting and staying fit.
